TIP OF THE MONTH - FEBRUARY 2012

GRIP

"Good golf begins with a good grip" Ben Hogan

For a right handed golfer:

The pad of the left thumb should sit on top of the grip, not on the side. If its on the side of the grip, its too much in the palm and needs to be more in the fingers. Also, make sure the left thumb is further down the grip than the index finger. In order to hinge the club and swing with power you need the club in your fingers and not in the palm.

The right hand. When you fit the right hand on the grip, a pocket forms in the palm. The thumb pad on the right hand should sit on top of the left thumb (which will fit in the pocket of the right hand). With a proper right hand grip, the left thumb will not be visible.

The V's formed by the thumb and index finger of each hand should point to the right shoulder. This varies based on hand size and strength.

Spend some time this off season working on strength and flexibility.

Also, go back to basic fundamentals: Work on Grip and Posture...you can do drills inside during the winter months..If you need some drills, send me an email and i'll get you some.

Develop a plan for 2012 with specific goals to work toward.
